After months of preparation, it’s time to open the curtain: the 15K Formentera Night Run premieres this Saturday, October 5. And it will do so with the quota of places sold out. More than 1,500 runners will attend the event in search of a comprehensive experience that transcends the physical activity itself, and where gastronomy and music also have a relevant role. Of course, among the objectives of the attendees is to enjoy an island paradise like Formentera and its colorful sunset. Thus, the 15-kilometer race will start at 18:00 hours, in the evening.
Among the participants who will attend the event are two familiar faces of endurance races, the physically disabled athlete Àlex Roca, who recently managed to complete the popular Olympic marathon in Paris; and the youtuber Valentí Sanjuan, finisher of such tough tests as the Ultraman. Along with them, a large number of runners and, above all, women runners. Because the number of female participation in the 15K Formentera Night Run reaches 53.8%, a figure that confirms the great attraction of the race for all types of athletes.
For Francisco Larrey, general director of the event, “the premiere of the 15K Formentera Night Run is the result of many months of work and we are really satisfied with the result. It is a pride for us to give life to a race after having sold out the bibs and start with record data in the sports calendar of the island. In addition, we are very happy to support the deseasonalization and to do so by promoting quality tourism in the final part of the season. We believe that we are facing a project of great projection and we will work to make it so”.
Es Pujols, the nerve center of the race
The town of Es Pujols will serve as the nerve center of the event, hosting the start and finish of the 15 km race. The route will take athletes through places such as L’Estany des Peix, La Savina and l’Estany Pudent. Meanwhile, the 5K Sunset Run will start at the port of Formentera, sharing the finish line in Es Pujols. The idea of offering two affordable distances for the vast majority of athletes is to integrate into the event people of any physical condition.
A multidisciplinary and international event
Already from this first edition the 15K Formentera Night Run stands out as an event of international character. More than 20% of those registered come from abroad, with Italy being the country that brings more runners (10% of the total), followed by the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany. There is also representation from France, Switzerland, Argentina and Andorra.
Among the attractions of the 15K Formentera Night Run are the activities that will be held in parallel to the event. And of course, the Run and Feel party, which will fill the Plaza Europa with music, with DJs such as DJ Pipe, DJ Marco Holtman and DJ Manu Fernández as protagonists of a party that will start when crossing the finish line and will continue in Magoo Formentera until well into the early hours of the morning. The program offers a yoga masterclass on Saturday morning (10:00 h) and a brunch at the Fandango restaurant, by the sea, on Sunday (from 13:00 h) with live music.
In addition, the 15K Formentera Night Run is born with a solidary character and an undeniable commitment to its own territory. The organization will make a donation to the Save Posidonia project with the aim of protecting this oceanic plant essential to the ecosystem of Formentera. In addition, the T-shirts that participants will receive, manufactured by Ecoalf Sports, are 100% made from recycled materials, following the sustainable line that the race itself has set from the beginning.
Formentera is thus preparing for a sporting, gastronomic and tourist event that promises to be unforgettable. A long-awaited debut in the sports calendar that will surely be consolidated over the coming years.
