The 15K Formentera Night Run is already a reality. This afternoon was held the first edition of an event that has brought together more than a thousand runners in the town of Es Pujols. A resounding success. And there were high expectations for the premiere of the race and the result has paid off with flying colors. An inaugural event that sold out all the bibs. It was not for less considering the incomparable setting offered by the sunset on the island of Formentera. A play of light that participants have enjoyed while adding strides in search of the finish line.
The 15-kilometer circular route, starting and finishing in Es Pujols, allowed runners to get to know places in the local environment such as San Ferran, Es mal Pas, Sant Francesc and La Savina, also bordering the iconic lakes of Estany des Peix and Estany Pudent. In the challenge of completing these 15 kilometers, which has passed surrounded by a wonderful natural environment, the fastest runner was Pau Marqués, stopping the stopwatch in a creditable time of 55′ 09”. In second place was Martí Juan (55′ 55“), and the podium was completed by Daniel Torres (56′ 41”).
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Elisa Melilli won after dominating with solvency a race that ended with a time of 56′ 08”, being the third absolute classified. The second runner to cross the finish line was María García (59′ 51), while the third place was occupied by María López (1h 30″).
Among the 1,500 participants who enjoyed the premiere of this event were two illustrious athletes such as Álex Roca -marathon runner with a 76% physical disability. It was his first competition after completing his second marathon in Paris this summer.
This event was accompanied by the 5K Sunset Run, another less demanding challenge in which Daniel González (17′ 35“) and Verónica Esteve (20′ 52”) won. The circuit started in La Savina and shared with its big sister the last 5 kilometers. The last rays of sun reflected on the salt flats gave the runners panoramic views that they will hardly forget. A real natural gift.
This wonderful sunset was enjoyed by personalities such as the youtuber Valentí Sanjuan and Rafael Medina, director of Ecoalf Esports – technical sponsor of the race. Both arrived at the finish line really impressed with the experience.
15K Formentera Night Run, a 360º experience
The event organized by Talentum and the Consell Insular de Formentera was born with the intention of offering more than just a sporting experience. Thus, in addition to the two races, participants who wished could take part in a yoga masterclass early in the morning. The Esplanada de la Cofradía dels Pescadors, next to the Port de la Savina, was the place chosen for this relaxing session by the sea.
From the morning calm to the evening party after crossing the finish line. The runners were able to discover the authentic Run and Feel spirit with a party to celebrate their race. But the party of the 15k Formentera Night Run does not end today. Tomorrow at 13:00h the Fandango restaurant, by the sea, will offer a brunch with live music. The best possible plan to close the weekend.
A very successful first edition
The balance that leaves this first edition of the 15k Formentera Night Run is unbeatable. The data speak for themselves: a female participation reached 53%, a figure that very few races can boast. In addition, more than 20% of those registered came from outside Spain, with the presence of Italian, Dutch, British, Belgian, German, French, Swiss, Argentinian and Andorran runners.
